Ms. Isabel Salovaara is a Social Anthropologist with research interests spanning issues of gender, labor, education, youth, and urban built environments. She has written on women's labor in Delhi's informal private tuition sector and on the intersections of women's empowerment initiatives and education reform discourse with the emerging category of social enterprise in India.
At JSLH, Ms. Salovaara has taught Interdisciplinary Seminar III, which introduces students to ethnographic fieldwork methods through a community engagement project in schools and anganwadis near the university, as well as the Society, Space, and Culture course. Ms. Salovaara has been the recipient of a Fulbright-Nehru Research Grant to study private tuitions in Delhi and a Gates Scholarship to pursue her MPhil in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge.
